With Live Audio, Facebook leads the offensive against ClubHouse

The resounding success of ClubHouse has not gone unnoticed by Facebook. According to the discoveries of the engineer Alessandro Paluzzi, the social media giant is reportedly currently preparing a Messenger Rooms feature whose objective would be to compete with the most popular audio chat application at the moment.

A success that makes noise

ClubHouse has seen a real explosion in popularity in recent months. Presenting himself as a “Voice-based social network”, the application has benefited from the media endorsement of many personalities, such as Elon Musk or Mark Zuckerberg. An advertisement that quickly bore fruit: despite security problems, ClubHouse quickly reached 10 million downloads worldwide, even before being available on Android.

The success of the application is such that the largest social networks took a close interest in its case, and did not hesitate to quickly “To be inspired” of its principle to enrich their own offers. Twitter was the first to offer a similar functionality to its users. Called “Spaces”, it is currently being tested with certain iOS and Android users.

Facebook will not be left behind by ClubHouse

A month ago, we learned that Facebook was also developing a copy of ClubHouse. While the project was only in its early stages of development, the path to a new full-fledged social platform was favored. However, according to the first clues that could be found by Alessandro Paluzzi, it is actually a “simple” Messenger Rooms feature that would have been ultimately preferred by Mark Zuckerberg’s social network.

As a reminder, Messenger Rooms is an audio and video chat service launched by Facebook in May 2020, when users were still looking for new ways to communicate and work together, despite the health crisis.

Called “Live Audio”, this new feature should allow users to create public “rooms” making it possible to open listening to the debate to a larger audience, such as on ClubHouse. Once the Live Audio room has been created, the user will be able to invite other users to join them via a Facebook post, via a direct message on Messenger, or even by sharing a direct link.

As can be seen in the image below, speakers in a “room” should be represented by their profile image, in circular form. Here again, the inspiration “ClubHouse” is felt.

Be careful though: as Alessandro Paluzzi points out, the project is still in its infancy, and the images shown are actually only models. It could very well be that Facebook’s plans change and evolve in the meantime. However, one thing is certain: the social media giant is preparing the counterattack, and ClubHouse had better watch out.
